What is IB Diploma Programme?
The IB Diploma Programme (DP) at SIS is a two-year programme for students aged 16 to 19 who are ready for an academic challenge and want to prepare for university and beyond. It is recognized and respected by universities around the world and supports students in becoming independent, confident learners.
What makes the DP unique?
The DP offers a broad and balanced education while allowing students to develop their individual strengths and interests. Students are encouraged to think critically, make connections between subjects, and take ownership of their learning.
What will you study?
Students choose six subjects from different subject groups, ensuring both depth and variety. Some subjects are studied at Higher Level (HL) and others at Standard Level (SL), depending on students’ strengths and future plans.
The DP core
In addition to their subjects, all DP students complete three core elements that are central to the programme:
- Theory of Knowledge (TOK) – exploring how we know what we know
- Extended Essay (EE) – an independent research project on a topic of your choice
- Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) – engaging in creative projects, physical activities and community service
These experiences help students develop important skills such as research, reflection, and collaboration.
Learning beyond the classroom
The DP is more than academic study. It challenges students to:
- Think independently and critically
- Communicate effectively
- Make connections between subjects and real-world issues
- Grow as internationally-minded individuals
Preparing for your future
The DP prepares students for university, further education and life in a global society. With its strong academic foundation and focus on personal development, students leave the programme ready to take the next step with confidence.
